Construction of Wade Academic Center Marks Milestone

Beam Signing 06.25.2024, Capital Campaign, Wade Academic Center

A significant event occurred on the Bellarmine campus the morning of June 25 with the installation of the final steel beam for the framing of Wade Academic Center. To mark the occasion, a topping off ceremony was held, during which guests placed their signatures on the beam prior to it being hoisted into place.

The first to sign was Fr. Jerry Wade, S.J. ’55, Bellarmine’s chancellor emeritus, who also added the names of his late parents, Walter and Clara, as the new facility will be named in honor of the Wade family. In addition to major lead gift donors of the Capital Campaign, participants included Chris Meyercord ’88, president; Rod Jemison, principal; Fr. Mike Moodie, S.J., rector of the Bellarmine Jesuit community; and representatives of Devcon Construction, the project’s general contractor, which included Gary Filizetti, president; Andy Schatzman, senior vice president of construction; Jonathan Harvey, senior vice president of construction; and Adrienne Crawford, project manager.

Wade Academic Center is scheduled to open for fall 2025. The 44,000 sq. ft. building will be home to 21 classrooms, Modern and Classical Languages department, a new I-T center, the dean’s office, the James A. Harville ’63 Speech and Debate Hub, and the Fr. Dick Cobb, S.J. Center for Adult Spirituality.
