During competition April 21-23 in Houston, Texas, the Bellarmine Robotics team won an unprecedented 5th FRC Robotics World Championship.
Moderator Ann Johnson indicated that after a long and tough weekend, “at the end of qualifications we ended up 4th seed, yet the highest scoring robot, in our division; having to do with ranking points and not absolute points scored.”
Ms. Johnson explained, “During alliance selection we partnered with the number one seed Team 1619 (Colorado), and Teams 3175 (Michigan) and 6672 (Texas). We won our division and then won our way through the division winners round robin to qualify for the finals.”
Bellarmine students again displayed their being men for and with others, as Ms. Johnson reported that the young men volunteered to help other teams unload their trucks and set up their pits, assisted with robot inspections, helped teams to pass inspections, and assisted numerous teams with robot repairs and modifications throughout the tournament.
Another highlight of the tournament was the appearance of Bellarmine alumnus Greg Shean ’65 and his wife, Gloria, longtime and generous supporters of Bellarmine’s Robotics program who attended the competition to cheer on the Bells.
Congratulations to all involved on this FRC World Championship, and best wishes to those competing at the VEX World Championship in Dallas, Texas, taking place May 4-8.
