Bellarmine College Preparatory is excited to announce that Nate Sutton ’00 will be the head of program for Varsity Baseball. Coach Sutton brings a wealth of playing and coaching experience, a tremendous amount of success at all levels of baseball, and a strong understanding of the tradition and values held at Bellarmine.
After his days at Bellarmine, Nate went on to play Division 1 baseball at the University of California, Santa Barbara. At UCSB, Nate was a two-time team Captain, a team MVP his senior season, and named to the UCSB All-Decade team. Following his collegiate success, Nate was drafted by the Los Angeles Angels in 2004. From there Nate went on to have a seven-year professional career with highlights that include: multiple invites to major league spring training, 2009 AA All-Star, and two years playing at the AAA level.
For the past eight years Coach Sutton has served in a variety of roles in the Bellarmine Baseball program under former head coach Mike Rodriguez. These roles have ranged from JV head coach, Varsity assistant coach, and interim Varsity head coach. Combined with his prior experience as a student athlete at Bellarmine, Nate has intimate knowledge and experience within the Baseball program at Bellarmine.
“Coach Sutton has always impressed me as a person from the day I watched him play on Bob Fatjo Field,” director of Athletics Louie Agelson said when asked about the decision. “I continue to be impressed with his education-based approach to athletics, which aligns so nicely with Bellarmine’s values as a school. I look forward to working with him in his new role.”
