Bell Sophomore Named Central YMCA Youth Volunteer of the Year

Nico '23

Nico Aragón-Guevara ’23 is being recognized for his volunteer work and will be honored as the 2020 Central YMCA Youth Volunteer of the Year.

Nico was nominated by the Central YMCA youth sports staff for his volunteer work in the program, his commitment to the Y, and his positive leadership and attitude, which have made a positive impact on the organization and the community. “His dedication to the Y stands out as exceptional among his peers and we are so proud to be able to recognize him with this award,” noted Thomas Russell, associate executive director of the Central YMCA located on The Alameda in San Jose.

Nico’s mother, AnaMaria Guevara, LCSW, informs us that he volunteered at the Y as a junior referee and other roles as needed by the sports program. “In middle school, he volunteered teaching children diagnosed with autism and other developmental disorders to learn to play soccer. He found the experience challenging, humbling and inspiring,” she noted, adding that “Community service is a family value and practice and we’re so grateful that he enjoys it and that Bellarmine encourages students to engage in civic responsibility and giving of oneself this way.”

The Central YMCA’s recognition event this year will be virtual, and will take place on Saturday, October 24. Bellarmine congratulates Nico on this honor and for truly demonstrating being a “man for and with others.”
