Bellarmine Theatre Arts presents The Drowsy Chaperone

Bellarmine’s upcoming production of the musical/comedy The Drowsy Chaperone (March 6-14) also marks the 10th anniversary of performances in the Sobrato Center for Humanities and the Arts that opened on campus in 2010 with the musical West Side Story.  That production featured then Bellarmine senior Ryan Vasquez, who has gone on to perform in such Broadway productions as Waitress and Hamilton.

In addition to West Side Story, past musicals presented on the Leo M. Shortino Stage of the Sobrato Center Main Stage Theatre have included: The Wiz, Tommy, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, Hairspray, Spamalot, Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson, Pippin!, Shrek the Musical, and Newsies.

Winner of five Tony Awards in 2006, this production of The Drowsy Chaperone features 16 Bellarmine students, as well as girls from Mountain View High School, Notre Dame High School, Lincoln High School, Pioneer High School, Presentation High School, and Los Gatos High School.

The director, faculty member and alumnus Russ Marcel ’91, notes that this is a special production, calling it,  “ … a great ensemble show” that showcases Bellarmine’s very talented Senior class, which includes JP Micallef, Fabian Lucero, Anthony Scurto, Josiah Cannon, Will Meckstroth, in addition to ensemble members Michael Young, Vance Padilla, Matthew Nguyen, and stage manager Alex Gomez.

Performances are March 6-8, 11-14.  Tickets online at: https://www.bcp.org/thedrowsychaperone
